Toddler Beds…So Overrated!

Long gone are the days when we tip-toed around the house in fear of waking my son from his nap (okay, that might be a slight exaggeration!).  And to think we were so worried about making the transition from his crib to a toddler bed (remember the post, Bye Bye Crib, Hello Toddler Bed?), only to discover that the transition wasn’t as bad as we had imagined!

So here we are in the present, my son is 23 months, sleeps like an angel in is toddler bed…at night, that is!  He has always been a morning napper (at least 2 hours) then all of the sudden (I’m pinning it down to when my daughter was born) he started switching his naps to the afternoon…WHEN he naps!

Although we know he will most likely NOT sleep we still put him in his room in the morning to play…which HE interprets as “destroy!”

Take for example, when he “plays” with his blinds (we usually raise them but this picture was taken in the morning when he woke up).  In his defense, how else is he going to look out the window yelling for the “squirrrrelll?!”

And then there’s that radiator…(this is how I found him one morning!)

This was after I yelled at him (in English AND Italian-double whammy!)

Forget the comfy armchair we bought him specifically for chillaxin’ and reading a good book…

Every once in a while he doesn’t cause any major damage…that’s because he’s figured out a new trick…

Onesie-fashion statement?!

IF he decides to take his nap, it’s usually after the tornado has hit the room (and he calms down after the storm).  He goes from ransacking his room to out cold…in as little as a minute or two!

Lately he’s been sleeping like a log…an adorably cute log that is!

(Wish it were that easy for me.  To say I’m a horrible sleeper is an understatement!  My poor sleep habits have reached a new level since having children.  Whereas my husband is an S.O.C (my acronym for Sleep On Command) type of person, I have become a C.I.I (Child-Induced Insomniac).  Anyone feel my pain??!!  Alright, enough wallowing in my own sleep-deprived pity…that’s another blog post!)

I ask myself, can anyone actually sleep in these positions??

(Gave up on finding the squirrel!)

(Gave up hope that we would have come to rescue him!)

(Would NOT let go of that car!!)

(Made it to the bed but the wrong end found the pillow…still, better than the previous position!)

At the end of the day, I guess I shouldn’t complain! He IS still taking naps after all!

What’s the strangest sleep position you’ve found your toddler in?!

Remember when your mother used to say “Wait till you have children”? Well that’s pay back time, unfortunately we are still in the thick of things, the difference is that we paly and spoil them and at the end of the day you take them back!!!!!!

How did I know one of you would say this?! ;-)

I love learning new things about you …like the fact that you speak Italian ( I do not..sigh)! Also glad to hear that the boy sleeps at night! I actually still have my son trapped in his crib and he is going to be three in May! I did the same thing with my daughter because I was so worried about her not sleeping at night. Sorry for the lost nap time..I know how much you need it with a little babe on your hands! Sadly my daughter stopped napping when my son came too…and absolutely would not nap in her new big girl bed. I must transition my son soon!

Thanks Monica! My son HAS to learn Italian so that he can converse with his grandparents and family in Italy…we actually speak italian to him about 90% of the time! You could always learn, you know? Rosetta Stone, perhaps?! ;-)

This is so funny! I was just talking to a friend today about how crazy naptime becomes after you move them out of the crib. I’m so glad we’re not the only ones with this situation! The napping pictures are great–send them into Naps Happen!

It’s like their finally out of jail or something…and they don’t know what to do with their new-found freedom! lol!

These pics are hilarious! Especially his expression after you yelled in English and Italian. Unfortunately I have no stories or photos to share. My kids just thrash around in their cribs and beds until they get tired. LOL. I just hear tons of kicking and talking to their dolls and after 10 minutes… Silence!

Your son gets an A+ for creativity :)

After TEN minutes?! That’s pretty good! Usually my son goes on like this for up to an hour and a half before he decides he needs a nap! lol!

Hilarious post! Luckily my little toddler plays in her bed and eventually falls asleep! At least he really tires himself out before the nap!
